We get letters: Diabetes news, facing the fats and mindful menus
Site provides diabetes education videos
DLife TV, a website dedicated to educating people about life with diabetes, has a series of videos that provide information and inspiration for leading a healthier life. The clips, which last about four minutes each, cover such topics as making smart choices at the grocery store, professional athletes with diabetes, the importance of sleep and diabetes technology, among other issues.
The site also includes meal planning information and recipes, blogs, a question and answer section and a forum, along with general diabetes information.
Heart association says “Face the Fats”

The American Heart Association reports that people are more knowledgeable than ever before when it comes to understanding which fats are “bad,” with about 93 percent of Americans saying they’ve heard of trans fat and 77 percent knowing that saturated fat plays a role in heart disease.
But only 21 percent of people surveyed could independently identify three sources of trans fat, and only 11 percent knew that eating “good fat” instead of “bad fat” won’t help you lose weight. Because of this, the group has produced the Face the Fats website, which provides education about fat and a fats translator that can tell you how much fat and calories you should be getting based on your weight, age, height and activity level.
A guide to healthy weight loss
HelpGuide is a great non-profit source for information that can help you lead a healthier life, and the site has a good section on diet and nutrition that includes a guide to healthy weight loss. It dispels many of the common myths having to do with weight loss, such as that all carbs are the enemy, that cutting out fat will help you lose weight, and that fasting is a good idea.
It also covers aspects of mindful eating (avoiding buffets, portioning out a single serving from a larger package, etc.) and basic guidelines for weight loss such as having a goal partner or support system, setting realistic goals, choosing smaller portions and being more active.
Finding healthier restaurant fare

If you’re someone who eats out or orders takeout a lot, you know how difficult it can be to make healthy choices. Mindful Menus seeks to make it easier to choose healthier meals with little guides that provide 20 healthy choices for eating in the various neighborhoods of New York.
And if you don’t live in the city, the company also produces a “wherever” guide, which provides diners with general information about what tend to be the healthiest choices in different types of cuisine.
