Green tea may prevent heart disease
Drinking green tea can help improve cardiovascular health by improving blood flow and helping the arteries to relax, according to research from Greece. Researchers say one or two cups a day would be enough to get the benefits, and that green tea is probably better than black tea because it has more of the antioxidants known as flavanols. Broccoli may cut prostate cancer risk
If you want to lower your risk of prostate cancer, try eating broccoli a couple of times a week. A British study showed more protection for men who ate broccoli four times a week compared to those who ate peas four times a week. The study actually looked at changes in genes that are associated with a reduced risk of prostate cancer, which is not the same as actually studying whether the risk of cancer was reduced, but the glucosinolates in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables are probably still very good for you…
Theme parks good for fun, not eating
A British study looking at the menu offerings at more than 200 museums, theme parks and zoos found that none of the meals sampled met the standards for school lunches. The nearly 400 meals sampled had up to three times more salt and fat than school meals are allowed, as well as dizzying amounts of sugar. The government agency that developed the study says healthier choices should be available to kids year round…
Another sort of Shangri-La
Friend of the Lab and Shangri-La Diet author Seth Roberts says there’s another diet out there that claims to be new but is actually similar in theory to Shangri-La. The plan, which goes by the name “Fat Loss 4 Idiots,” says it’s important to change up what you eat every couple of days to keep weight loss going. Roberts says a theory behind his diet is changing up flavors regularly “because you are constantly eating flavors you haven’t yet associated with calories”…

Finally, Chinese actress Bai Ling reports on her blog that fans shouldn’t think she’s pregnant even though recent pictures of her show something that looks a bit like a baby bump. In reality, she’s been eating dessert around the world, she says. And frequent visits to the doctor are also nothing to worry about, she says — they’re a necessity for her continued work in films.
