Celebrity diets: Michael Phelps’ gold medal diet and diet book to become a movie

Plenty of carbs secret to swimmer’s success

As Michael Phelps works his way through swimming event after event, largely crushing his competition, ESPN wondered what he did to keep his body in top form.

He says he’s eating a lot of carbs like pizza and pasta and getting as much sleep as possible to help his body recover.

Of course he needs all that energy to have the calories to burn in the pool, especially at times when he has to swim a couple of races in a short period of time. So don’t expect to get his body, guys, just by following his diet.

Janet Jackson gaining again

Reports from England have it that Janet Jackson is yo-yoing back to the heavy side these days, and that she’s looking to lose weight before her world tour begins.

She is said to have gained about 28 pounds in the past five months and is hoping to lose about 40 pounds before her tour. She now has a nutritionist and a chef and is eating 1,700 calories a day.

The weight gain is blamed on her boyfriend, who could probably stand to lose a few, and who stocks the house with fried chicken, pizza and ice cream. Maybe she should take up competitive swimming.

Hilary Swank wants to turn diet book into romantic comedy

In more news from across the pond, the Guardian reports that Hilary Swank wants to turn the bestselling diet book French Women Don’t Get Fat into a romantic comedy.

Her production company says the film would be about a girl-next-door champagne company manager (because that’s who lives next door to everyone, right?) who learns some tough lessons becoming the person she always wanted to be.

Said lessons, apparently, involve lots of Brie and red wine.

Health lessons from a Venus

Venus Williams checked in with Shape magazine for its August issue, where she shared her seven rules for healthy life. Not surprisingly, she says practice makes perfect, that you must know your weaknesses and find your particular motivation that will keep you going toward your goal.

She also says it’s important to create your own diet rules based on what you need to fuel your life (she has lunch for breakfast, such as a stir fry with brown rice, to keep her going through morning workouts).

Her final tips: stand up for what you know is right, help others whenever you can and pursue all your passions.
