“The Biggest Loser: Couples” episode two: An emotional farewell

Expect for two couples, the other nine “Biggest Loser” contestants faced their first temptation without their teammates. Despite losing their biggest supporters, the contestants knew they had to work hard to stay in the game so their teammates could return to the competition.

The temptation involved crossing a line, which Alison said if they crossed, they’d get $5,000. However, if they crossed the line, they, along with their teammate who went home last week in a surprising twist, would be eliminated from the “Biggest Loser” as well.

No one crossed the line, so Alison offered an additional $5,000. Again no one stepped across the line. Alison made one last offer: $25,000. It was a struggle not to step across the line as the contestants thought of all the things they could do with the money, but none of them gave in.

Who remains, pep talks and workouts

Bob and Jillian joined their teams in the house to find out who went home, and both trainers seemed a little disappointed with some of the decisions. Bob let his team know they had a responsibility to themselves and their teammates.

After Bob discovered who his team sent home, his team told him about the temptation challenge. Joelle admitted she almost crossed the line for the money, so Bob took her aside to give her a pep talk. Bob thought the talk went well, but he still worried about where Joelle stood in regards to the competition and wanting to lose weight and discover a healthier lifestyle.

In the gym, Jillian and Bob coached their teams during the workout. While Bob coached Joelle, he continued to feel as if she wasn’t giving 100 percent and wondered if she really wanted to be there.

The contestants sent home last week appeared to be training hard. We saw them working out in a gym and giving it their all. They all seemed determined to lose the weight.

A rowing and hiking challenge

Alison joined the “Biggest Loser” contestants on a boat for an individual challenge. The contestants had to race kayaks a quarter of a mile to shore. Once they reached the shore, they exited the kayaks and trekked up a mountain.

The first contestant to cross the finish line at the top of the mountain won immunity and a phone call home. In addition, the contestants who came in second, third and fourth place also received a phone call home. Finally, the contestant who finished last received a one-pound penalty at the weigh-in.

Blaine and Helen were neck-and-neck. Tara noticed Blaine and Helen in front, so she paddled her kayak more rapidly. Blaine remained in front as they reached the shore to hike up the mountain, but Tara caught up with him and began jogging until she passed him. Blaine tried to jog past Tara to reclaim his lead, but he couldn’t keep up.

As a result, Tara won immunity at the weigh-in, as well as a phone call home. Blaine came in second and won a phone call home instead of the immunity he tried hard to win. Finally, Mandy and Helen won the last two phone calls home. Unfortunately, Dan came in last and received the one-pound penalty at the weigh-in; however, Dan was confident his weight loss would be enough to overcome the disadvantage.

Last chances and a big blowup

Soon after the winning contestants phoned home, everyone headed to the gym for their last-chance workout. Joelle looked around the gym during her workout and saw some of her competitors throwing up. She said she didn’t want to work as hard as they did and get sick, so, as usual, she took it easy during her last-chance workout.

When Bob caught Joelle slacking off several times, he told her to step it up, but Joelle continued to workout at her own pace and stopped every 20 seconds to rest. Eventually, Joelle’s lack of enthusiasm caused Bob to blow up for the first time in “Biggest Loser” history. Bob became so frustrated with Joelle that his shouting and frequent cursing caused everyone to stop. In fact, it was so quiet that if Bob hadn’t been shouting at Joelle, you could’ve heard a pin drop.

After the unexpected turn of events in the gym, contestants headed to the scale for their second weigh-in. Before Alison started the weigh-in she reminded the contestants that if they lost the weigh-in and were sent home, their teammate wouldn’t be able to return.

Weigh-in results

Tara lost one pound, which made her very thankful she’d won immunity.
Together, Dane and Blaine lost a total of 30 pounds (4.04%). Alone, Dane lost 14 pounds and Blaine lost 16 pounds.
Mandi lost six pounds (2.39%).
Helen lost eight pounds (3.27%).
Together, Mike and Ron lost a total of 19 pounds (2.49%). Alone, Mike lost seven pounds and Ron lost 12 pounds.
Damien lost nine pounds (2.47%).
Kristin lost ten pounds (2.93%).
Filipe lost nine pounds (2.59%).
Joelle’s lack of enthusiasm in the gym resulted in a small loss of two pounds (.68%).

“It’s an I told you so. I accept that. I’m a big enough woman to take that,” Joelle told Alison, Jillian, Bob and her competitors.

Jerry lost one pound (.29%).
Dan lost three pounds, but his one-pound penalty put him below the yellow line (.47%).

After the weigh-in, the contestants had a tough decision when they had to decide whether to send Jerry or Dan home. They knew both men needed to stay on “The Biggest Loser” ranch, but they could only keep one. Who did they decide to send home: Jerry, the oldest contestant to ever step foot on “The Biggest Loser” ranch, or Dan, the youngest and heaviest contestant the “Biggest Loser” has ever had?

The contestants gathered for their first elimination, which turned out to be an emotional one. Ultimately, all of the contestants voted to send Jerry home.

Since leaving “The Biggest Loser” ranch, Jerry has lost 84 pounds, and he reported that his health is a lot better. As for his wife, Estella, she now weighs less than 200 pounds.
