Losing it: Revenge, roles motivate stars to slim, skinny isn’t scary and Padma’s burger love
Jessica Simpson, Robert Downey Jr. taking off weight
It’s been awhile since we brought you a roundup of diet news from the world of celebrities, and we almost missed the drama (if you want to call it that) surrounding Jessica Simpson’s weight.
First she was all over the magazines saying she liked herself the way she was, then one bad performance and lots of people making fun of her led to her vow to lose 20 pounds in eight weeks. I guess it’s good to have motivation, and if she’s successful people will only have her singing to make fun of her for, so that’s something.
In other motivated celebrity weight loss news, word has it that Robert Downey Jr. has been slimming to play Sherlock Holmes. Guy Ritchie is planning a new version of the story, and singer Chris Martin, who’s said to be a fan of the detective, told Downey he needed to be gaunt to do the role justice.
“So every time I’m reaching for a muffin I just think about Chris Martin and skip the snack,” Downey said.
Skinny starlets say don’t worry about weight loss
Some stars who are looking a little too skinny these days say it’s not a big deal. Lindsay Lohan says she’s losing weight because of stress and is eating the same as she always has, including Big Macs. She says she doesn’t know how much she weighs and that she’s never weighed herself (anyone believe that?) but that working too much and lack of sleep have caused the pounds to fall off.
On the other hand, Mischa Barton says she is watching what she eats, but fans shouldn’t be worried about how skinny she’s looking. She says she’s happier and healthier than ever, still doing yoga and Pilates, and that she’s just cut back on greasy food.
Padma Lakshmi to star in Hardee’s ad
And now that “Top Chef” is done for a little while, hostess/cookbook author Padma Lakshmi is filling some of her free time in commercials for Hardee’s. She’ll promote the Bacon Western Thickburger, which doesn’t seem to be on the company’s nutritional information page, but a third-pound bacon and cheese burger offers 910 calories and 64 grams of fat. Lakshmi says she grew up vegetarian and now has a weakness for burgers, but she works hard to stay skinny.
