“The Biggest Loser: Couples” episode 10: Dropping Jillian
Last week’s episode of “The Biggest Loser: Couples” ended with the weigh-in. Mike was the only contestant left to weigh-in, and in order for everyone to avoid the elimination room, Mike had to lose a minimum of 10 pounds.

Mike nervously took his place on the scale and released a sigh of relief when it revealed he’d lost 11 pounds! Everyone cheered, and then Alison dismissed the trainers and led the contestants outside.
Outside, Alison let the contestants know their team would compete against a member of the other team at the next weigh-in, and then the team with the most points at the end of the weigh-in would have to send someone from their team home.
But who would compete against whom at the weigh-in? Alison explained that each person would sit in a chair and hold a ball in their lap, and then the last person left sitting with the ball still in his or her lap would decide who competed against whom at the weigh-in.
Within a split second after the challenge began, Ron was out. Seconds after Ron dropped his ball, Cathy’s ball rolled from her lap. Ultimately, it came down to Mandi and Tara. Mandi knew her team needed a win but was unable keep the ball in her lap.
Tara was happy that she’d won, but the task ahead put a lot of pressure on her. She knew if she made the wrong decisions her team could lose, but if she made the right ones, they’d pull of another victory.
Tara paired the following players against one another:
- Kristin and Filipe
- Cathy and Mike
- Helen and Ron
- Laura and Aubrey
- Mandi and Sione
Finally, Tara played it safe and set herself out of the challenge.
Training and feeling left out
In the gym, Bob and Jillian worked their teams hard so each of them would be prepared to beat the competitors Tara paired them up with for the weigh-in.
Filipe watched as Jillian trained everyone but him. The more Filipe worked out alone and watched as Jillian ignored him, the angrier he became. Eventually, Filipe was the only one left in the gym and still working out on his own.
“This was the first time I felt alone in the gym,” Filipe commented.
A swimming, running relay
The “Biggest Loser” contestants joined Alison at the 24-Hour Fitness where they learned they’d participate in a relay race. One contestant from each team had to race from one end of the pool to the other to retrieve 24 medicine balls. Once the contestants gathered all 24 medicine balls, they handed them off to another member of their team, and then that member carried the medicine balls up the stairs and gave them — one by one — to yet another member from their team who took the medicine balls underneath an obstacle course. The team that got all 24 medicine balls through the obstacle course first won a day of luxury at a beachfront resort.
Filipe swam quickly to retrieve his medicine balls, while Ron walked through the water to retrieve his. Filipe’s fast pace gave the black team a big head start, but toward the end of the challenge Mandi made up lots of time for her team as she caught up with the black team.
Determined to earn a win for the blue team, Mandi gave it her all but was unsuccessful, and the black team celebrated another win. Although the blue team was upset because they’d lost another challenge, they decided to use their frustration to burn calories in the gym so their celebration could take place at the next weigh-in.
Sweating while the other team dines
While the black team enjoyed their presidential suite, massages and manicures, the blue team sweated off calories in the gym. In addition to massages and manicures, the black team was treated to fine dining. They celebrated their win with high-calorie foods and alcohol. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the blue team enjoyed a healthy meal and discussed how they were ready to kick the black team’s butt at the weigh-in.
At the end of the day, the black team consumed over 15,000 calories, and by the next morning, they regretted their food and alcohol binge. Then Jillian came in and learned what they’d done. Naturally, Jillian wasn’t happy, and she didn’t hold back in letting them know how disappointed she was.
Going back to Bob
Soon after Jillian chewed her team out for making bad choices, Filipe decided to have his say and reminded Jillian how she wasn’t there for him in the gym when he needed her. Once Filipe had his say, he left the room in tears, and his fellow teammates, as well as Jillian, were speechless.
“I felt that’s what I had to do . . . put her in her place,” Filipe said.
Moments later, Filipe and Sione went in search of Bob. They discovered Bob in the gym and told him they refused to work with Jillian. Bob asked them what happened, and soon after Filipe filled Bob in on the details, Bob agreed to take them back, so Filipe and Sione wasted no time in getting started on their last-chance workout.
Later, Jillian arrived and found Filipe and Sione working out with Bob’s team. She said she didn’t care and began her last-chance workout with the black team.
At the weigh-in, the black team feared their recent splurge would affect their weigh-in. Since Tara selected herself to sit out of the face-off challenge, she weighed in first.
Weighing in
Tara lost no weight, which left her team feeling more uneasy.
“I’m so mad at myself,” Tara confessed.
Black team member Mike lost eight pounds. Alison told Kathy that in order for her team to win the first round she needed to lose more than six pounds. Kathy lost four pounds, which gave the black team its first point.
Blue team member Aubrey lost three pounds. Laura needed to lose more than three pounds to earn another point for the black team, but instead, Laura gained a pound, which gave blue team their first point.
Blue team member Kristin lost seven pounds. Filipe had to lose more than seven pounds to beat Kristin and break the tie. Filipe lost a pound, so the blue team earned an additional point and took the lead.
Black team member Helen lost four pounds. Alison told blue team member Ron,he needed to lose more than seven pounds to win another point for the black team. Ron lost six pounds, which forced another tie.
Black team member Sione lost six pounds. Alison told blue team member Mandi she’d have to lose more than four pounds to break the tie and give the blue team the win they worked so hard for. However, Mandi gained two pounds, which left her, the blue team and Bob in total shock!
Unfortunately, Mandi’s weight gain gave the black team another win. Since Laura won an extra vote last week, she joined the blue team in the elimination room.
Tallying up the votes
Back at the ranch, Aubrey knew her team was going to vote to send Mandi home, so she fought for her sister and let her teammates know she wasn’t going to vote her sister out.
At the elimination, Laura voted to send Cathy home; Ron, as expected, voted to send Mandi home, as did
Kristin and Cathy; and Aubrey kept true to her word and voted to send Cathy home and not her sister.
The final vote came down to Mandi. Mandi knew if she voted for Cathy, it would be a tie and the black team would get to decide who went home. Mandi thought the black team would send Aubrey home, so she voted for Ron. Not only did Mandi save her sister, but she basically sent herself home. Nevertheless, Mandi was certain she could continue her journey to weight loss at home.
Update: Since Mandi left “The Biggest Loser” ranch, she has lost a total of 84 pounds.
