Drink your veggies with Amazing Grass Green Superfood

One of the simplest ways to improve your nutritional status is to increase your fruit and vegetable intake. However, some may find this health behavior not so simple.

Busy schedules and limited time for meals hardly makes chomping on broccoli convenient. Hence, the folks at Amazing Grass have introduced a line of powdered mixes (under the name of Green Superfood) that provide valuable antioxidants and phytochemicals, all from fruits and vegetables.

Chief among these ingredients is wheat grass, but you’ll also find everything from alfalfa to flax to pineapple. Simply mix the powder with water or milk and enjoy. Entirely nutritious, but is it delicious?

Tastiness varies among flavors

The answer to this question is quite conditional. First, there are three varieties of Amazing Grass: original, chocolate, and berry. The chocolate and original varieties are much more pleasant on the tongue than the berry flavor, without added ingredients.

The chocolate effectively masks any “grassy” taste, and the original almost has a minty flavor, making it quite delicious when simply mixed with milk and a bit of sweetener. The berry variety, however, overpowers the tastebuds with an artificial berry flavor (although the ingredients list indicates that there are no artificial components).

All hope is not lost for this flavor: blend it with a few frozen berries and a banana, and any unpleasant taste is masked by the whole fruits.

Mixing the right way

Additional tips for making your Amazing Grass consumption more appetizing include mixing with milk rather than water, and add a small amount of sweetener. These products need the creaminess of milk (cow’s, soy, hemp, rice, etc.) for ideal solubility, and just an extra hint of sweetener, from agave nectar, stevia or maple syrup, to ensure that getting in your veggies will be a tasty experience.

While Amazing Grass may not entirely live up to its name, Green SuperFood products are a valuable tool for anyone looking to increase their produce intake in a convenient and relatively palatable way.
