Obama says he’s not on a diet
We told you not too long ago about a bit of gossip about President Obama looking a little skinny these days.
A report in the British newspaper the Daily Mail says Obama isn’t trying to lose weight, but he naturally fluctuates by about 5 pounds in either direction from his normal weight. He says he’s not skipping meals and that a picture of him leaving a gym recently made him look super skinny only because he was wearing a jacket that was too big for him.
Candy Crowley’s TM diet
There’s apparently been a lot of speculation on the Internet lately about CNN’s senior political correspondent Candy Crowley’s recent weight loss, with some people suggesting she had a face lift or gastric bypass.
She finally talked to a reporter for the Los Angeles Times to set the record straight and let people know she lost the weight the old-fashioned way: through diet, swimming and occasional exercise with a trainer. But she says what has really made a difference and made her “lighter now in a lot of ways” is her use of Transcendental Meditation.
Pelosi says let them eat ice cream
A recent profile of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in New York magazine revealed the woman in charge of getting healthcare reform through her chamber of Congress eats and awful lot of ice cream.
The story includes an incident in which an aide brings her a platter with a bowl filled with ice cream, which elicits a giggle from Pelosi.
Chocolate ice cream is the staple of Pelosi’s diet: She doesn’t cook herself, so except for a salad for lunch and whatever an aide hands her for dinner, that’s what she eats. “I think that’s the first time she’s ever turned it down,” whispers her personal assistant, later. “The other day, she came in at 8:45 a.m. carrying a pint of Häagen-Dazs with an inch left in it—she’d eaten the whole thing on the way in. She handed it off to Michael, and then two hours later, she said, ‘Where’s that ice cream? Can I eat the rest of that?’?” (At one point, when she mentions to me that she likes artisanal ice cream, I joke, “Oh, elitist ice cream,” and she shoots back: “It’s not elite. It’s not elite. It’s just a small operation.”)
Jamie Oliver called one of world’s sexiest men
Speaking of elitists, Salon.com recently published a list of the sexiest men living, and British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver came in at the bottom of the list, number 15.
The list says it aims to prove there’s more to life than pretty boys, and praises Oliver for his liberal use of olive oil and his strident views on school lunches and stopping the childhood obesity epidemic by any means necessary. Of course, they note, he’s also a pretty boy, but that never hurt anyone.
