Subway’s Jared gaining back the weight

Diet-to-Go Meal Delivery: $25 Off 1st Week’s Order with Coupon “calorielab25″

Last year Jared Fogel of Subway fame celebrated 10 years of keeping the weight off that he initially lost by eating a diet of not much other than Subway sandwiches. The diet plan made him a household name and sold the country on Subway, but word has it Jared is gaining some weight since he’s eased up on the diet.

All about Jared

When Jared was 20 years old and a freshman at Indiana University, his weight peaked at 425 pounds. After picking up a nutritional information flyer at a local Subway, he started eating two sandwiches daily from the shop.

In a year he’d lost 245 pounds, and since that time he’s made his living appearing in Subway ads and traveling the country sharing his story and the merits of the Subway diet.

Going off the diet

After a year-long Tour de Pants, Jared has officially retired the iconic size 60 pants that he’s used as a prop all these years and is working with Michael Strahan of the New York Giants on a program to help combat childhood obesity.

Subway says that Jared has slowly started incorporating other foods into his diet, and he’s eating a lot more calories now than he did when he was strictly following the Subway diet to lose weight. He’s still paying attention to how much fat he eats, and only drinks diet beverages, along with occasional liquor or beer.

The Subway website puts his weight at 190 pounds, but recent pictures look like he might have put on more weight. Of course, it’s really difficult to keep eating healthy and getting enough exercise when you’re traveling some 200 days of the year as Jared has been doing.

Here’s hoping he’s able to get back on a healthy track, whether through eating sandwiches or some other means.
