Celebrity Drunkorexia: Is the Lady Gaga Drunk Diet Real, or Just a Promotional Stunt?

Stories about the Lady Gaga “Drunk Diet” are circulating the blogosphere following an interview in which the pop star attributed her svelte figure to booze and vigorous exercise.

“I am on the drunk diet,” Lady Gaga said to The Morning Mash Up. “I live my life as I want to, creatively. I like to drink whiskey and stuff while I am working. But the deal is I’ve got to work out every day, and I work out hung over if I am hung over. And it’s about the cross-training and keeping yourself inspired. I have to say, I do a ton of yoga.”

Celebrity Drunkorexia?

The Lady Gaga drunk diet sounds a lot like drunkorexia, a slang term that describes the practice of dieting to drink alcohol without gaining weight. Vigorous exercise will help burn off the calories associated with alcohol consumption, but since alcohol is devoid of nutrients, those who follow this party-hard diet philosophy may not be getting the foods their bodies need to function properly.

The pop star’s diet has been a newsworthy topic long before the Lady Gaga drunk diet hit the Internet. A brief timeline of the Lady Gaga diet discussion:

  • February 2011: A Vogue interview paints a scene in which Lady Gaga is eating filet mignon.
  • September 2010: David Ciemny, Lady Gaga’s former tour manager, tells Radar Online that Lady Gaga was hospitalized six times in 2009, primarily for her dangerous cycle of binging on unhealthy food and sweets and then not eating for weeks.
  • August 2010: Lady Gaga tells People, “It’s all about salsa with grain chips, tofu, turkey slices, hummus and coconut water.”
  • May 2010: Lady Gaga reveals to U.K.’s The Times that she “eats normally.”
  • March 2010: In a feature for New York magazine, Lady Gaga proclaims, “Pop stars should not eat.”
  • April 2009: After harsh feedback from her creative team about her thicker appearance while filming the “Paparazzi” music video, the pop star essentially stops eating: “She’s already lost about 20 pounds,” said a witness from the music video shoot. “She says she is always hungry. She isn’t doing a specific diet. She just isn’t eating.”

For what it’s worth, Lady Gaga’s tour riders from 2009 and 2010 indicate an extreme focus on light, healthy food, smart snacks and healthy beverages.

The Drunk Diet Connection

The buzz about the Lady Gaga drunk diet may all be for publicity purposes. Lady Gaga’s boyfriend, Luc Carl, has a book coming out in early 2012 called The Drunk Diet. On the book’s website, Carl explains that he lost 40 pounds in a year by essentially partying, drinking and living the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle.

While Gaga hasn’t admitted to plugging the upcoming book, we can’t help but consider the timely connection and chalk this latest media fracas up to another case of a popstar working hard and playing harder.

Too much alcohol can mess up your teeth, don’t allow that to happen.

How many overweight underachievers are going to read this, and suddenly feel vaguely superior to this successful, talented, rich and rather beautiful young woman?

She’s a rock star – when skinny rockstar MEN like Keith Richards, Iggy Pop & co talked about their substance abuse back in the day they weren’t targeted as victims, but just because she’s a woman she’s suddenly deluded and vain.

Guess what – maybe she likes to get trashed and look good and do her thing? I don’t LOVE her music but I hate the flak she gets for being a woman, as with this article pinning everything on her BF as though he were the real reason she does anything.

Swap sexes and if this were Lord Gaga laughing about his diet, and the GF doing the book, she’d be called on it for cashing in on his tormented but undeniable genius.

Ok as a psychology major that means that he needs to go see a psychologist. If anyone knows about Drunkorexia it would be the professionals. Doing so not only damage your liver and health wise bad but if a person would get addicted to the alcohol it would caused them to become an alcoholic as well anorexia. The limbs and body will eat itself people. It is not a joking matter. Think of it someone would go out and say I am going to kill myself. It is almost the same thing. The person might die of alcohol poisoning or died by the dehydration within the body which both can affect the mental status of a person. It is not healthy and if he is using it to prevent people from doing this sort of stuff then I would say good. But to promote it would only make things worse. It is putting two wrongs that would do double damage to a person’s body. Two wrongs don’t make a right. It makes it even worse. That is all I am going to say and I hope everyone can understand that the publicity stunt is no joke.
